My Home Town – Adelaide South Australia

Everyone has a special affinity for the place they were born and raised and for me that is Adelaide South Australia. I am sure if you are not from Australia you would not heard of little old Adelaide. Adelaide is a quiet city with an excellent climate as shown below:

A Bit of History

Before Adelaide was settled it was inhabited by the Kaurna Aboriginal tribe. South Australia was officially settled on the 28th of December 1836. It was the only freely settled province in Australia. That’s right South Australia was not a dumping ground for British convicts. The image below shows Adelaide in 1839, looking south-east from North Terrace.

The Coastal Lifestyle

I am sure everyone knows Australia is renowned for it’s beaches and coastal lifestyle and South Australia is no exception. My favourite beach in Adelaide would have to be Port Noarlunga. Port Noarlunga is about 35 km from Adelaide or five minutes from my house. It is said that it is the second most popular land based scuba dive in Australia. Port Noarlunga is protected by a natural reef and you can walk out on the jetty to the reef. You can read more about Port Noarlunga here.

Below are some images of Port Noarlunga.

South Australia is truly a great state to live in and I cannot see myself living anywhere else it has such a great climate and all the facilities one needs. Adelaide ranked number seven in the Economists Worlds Most Livable Cities for 2008. If you are planning a holiday or looking for a great place to re-settle why not consider Adelaide.
